Lebowakgomo man sought for acid attack, rape and hacking incident

The man is said to have allegedly brutally attacked his girlfriend by throwing acid on her face and raping her following a heated argument.

POLOKWANE – The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has ordered the Lebowakgomo Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit to work tirelessly in hunting down a man responsible for the alleged brutal attack on his 44-year-old girlfriend.

According to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, a male suspect is sought after pouring acid on his girlfriend’s face before raping her and hacking her with a panga leading to injuries on her left arm following a heated argument between the two.

“The incident occurred in Thokgoaneng Village, Ga-Chuene in the Lebowakgomo policing area on Friday night (June 7),” his statement read.

Ledwaba said information suggests the victim had visited the suspect at his residence when the incident occurred.

Following the ordeal, the suspect fled the scene. Police were notified, and they opened a case docket of rape and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm was opened.

Hadebe has condemned the incident as incidents of gender-based violence continue across the province.

“We call on the community to assist with information that can lead to the apprehension of the suspect. Anyone with information should contact the investigating officer Detective Sergeant Sarah Mokoena on 082 469 1173, the crime stop number on 08600 10111, the nearest police station or via the MySAPSApp.”
