Arrested ATM bombing kingpin appears in Seshego court

A foreign national was arrested in Ladybrand in the Free State on Sunday for his alleged involvement in a spate of crimes in Limpopo.

POLOKWANE – The man suspected to be the ATM bombing and robbery kingpin responsible for a spate of crimes in Limpopo is in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court today.

The foreign national (34) was arrested in Ladybrand in the Free State on Sunday (August 11) during a joint operation involving the Limpopo Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit, the Provincial Flying Squad, SAPS Ladybrand and Vusela Risk Security.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the man’s arrest follows a thorough investigation into a string of ATM bombings and robberies impacting the province’s business community between January 2022 and May 2023.

“Twelve suspects were initially arrested but the alleged kingpin evaded arrest until now. He will join his accomplices for a pre-trial hearing at the Regional Court on Thursday (August 15),” Ledwaba said.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe said the operation was an outstanding collaboration that brought the suspect to justice.
