Limpopo man stabbed to death at liquor outlet

Ronewa Musiamo (20) fell victim to violence at a liquor outlet, highlighting concerns over rising tavern-related crimes in Tshilwavhusiku.

LIMPOPO – A 20-year-old man, Ronewa Musiamo, was fatally stabbed at a liquor outlet in Madombidzha village in Sinthumule in the early hours last Sunday.

His death comes just two weeks after two other young men were also killed in separate stabbing incidents at liquor outlets in Gogobole and Midoroni.

The rise in violent crimes at liquor outlets in the Tshilwavhusiku policing area has alarmed the local police, community, and parents.

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Vuledzani Dathi, the incident occurred around 01:00. Musiamo had an argument with four other boys, which escalated into a physical altercation. He was stabbed in the chest and back with a sharp object and died at the scene.

“When the police arrived, the victim was already lying on the ground. We were alerted by members of the community who witnessed the incident,” Dathi said.

Khumbudzo Bugana, Kaiso Nenwali, Tshifhiwa Ralutanda, and Thabelo Masevhe were arrested shortly after and charged with murder.

They appeared in the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate’s Court on September 17 and the case was postponed to September 25 for a further bail hearing.

Ronewa’s family, represented by spokesperson Tshepiso Musiamo, expressed their deep sadness and shock over his death. They also thanked the community and local pastors for their support during this difficult time.

Vhamusanda Vho-Mbulaheni Ramabulana, a traditional leader, condemned the incident.

“This is a time when the youth should be focusing on their exams, not frequenting liquor outlets. Losing young people is like losing the future of the country,” he said.

He urged young people to prioritise their education over alcohol.

Ronewa Musiamo was laid to rest on September 21 at the Tshikhwani cemetery.
