Thohoyandou woman builds thriving beauty spa business
Mokgadi Hanley Masedi, owner of Hanley Beauty Spa in Tshisahulu, overcame challenges and beat the odds to build a successful business.

LIMPOPO – Mokgadi Hanley Masedi, the owner of Hanley Beauty Spa in Tshisahulu village near Thohoyandou, has defied the odds to create a business that is now making a mark in her community and beyond.
Born and raised in Sibasa, Mokgadi’s story begins in a blended family, where she stepped up as a parental figure after the passing of her mother. With the responsibility of caring for her siblings, she realised that a traditional 9-to-5 job wouldn’t allow her the flexibility to be there for her family. This led her to open Hanley Beauty Spa in 2022.
She says her journey to entrepreneurship hasn’t been easy. “The road has been tough, but giving up has never been an option for me.” Despite the challenges, she has thrived, viewing them as opportunities to grow. “If I had given up, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” she says, acknowledging the hard work and perseverance that have shaped her success.
Her passion for beauty and wellness, combined with her business mindset, has fuelled her drive to help others. She describes the most fulfilling part of being a therapeutic masseuse as the impact her work has on her clients. “My work speaks for itself,” she says, confident that the comfort and relief her clients feel through her services are her best marketing tools.
While she is trained as a pharmacist assistant, Mokgadi has managed to balance both her career and her business ventures. The opening of Hanley Beauty Spa was, in her words, the most important achievement of her life, and she’s far from done. “In the next five years, I envision Hanley Beauty Spa branches in all nine provinces,” she says.
For Mokgadi, success is not just about achieving her goals but about inspiring others too. She encourages young girls to pursue their dreams, no matter how small they may seem. “Life is about taking risks,” she advises. “Don’t let distractions pull you away from your business idea.”
