POLOKWANE – Mitchell House College warmly welcomed their Gr 8 learners into high school with a memorable bell-ringing ceremony, held at reception on Friday.
Surrounded by family, friends and teachers, the occasion symbolised the beginning of an exciting academic journey.
The event was directed by teacher Tlou Mashitisho, who graciously welcomed those present. Head girl Mabetji Mankga and head boy Nick Koma delivered heartfelt words of encouragement to the new learners. “You’ve got only four years to prove to yourself, your teachers, and your parents that you’re capable of being the best and most dedicated learner,” she said, motivating the Gr 8 learners to embrace the challenges ahead.
Mankga also shared her experiences of starting high school, inspiring the newcomers to approach their journey with confidence and enthusiasm.
College deputy head in academics, Claude Goeminne, led the bell-ringing ceremony, which saw each Gr 8 learner stepping forward to ring the bell. Following this, learners were greeted by Gr 12 learners, who assisted them in wearing their blazers, signifying their official induction into high school.
Goeminne highlighted the significance of the ceremony, saying, “The ringing of the bell becomes a harmonious testament to the commencement of a journey filled with discovery, growth, and the promise of a vibrant academic adventure. Well done, Gr 8s!” He also extended a warm welcome to the new teachers joining the college phase, who were invited to partake in the bell-ringing tradition.
The head girl and head boy’s parents had the special honour of helping them wear their white blazers, marking their leadership roles for the year.
