POLOKWANE – Mitchell House hosted its academic prize-giving ceremony in the school theatre on January 27, honouring last year’s Gr 8 to 11 learners for their achievements in term four.
The event was attended by parents, guardians, family, friends, learners, and teachers, all gathered to celebrate the hard work and dedication of the award recipients.
The deputy head of academics, Claude Goeminne, welcomed guests and set the tone for the prestigious event, followed by the deputy head of pastoral and discipline, Charmaine Mathibela, who individually presented awards to the achievers.
Dineo Murima (Gr 11) scoops the Chaeli Award floating trophy.

A standout moment of the ceremony was the presentation of the Chaeli award to Dineo Murima. This award represents the Chaeli Campaign, which aims to empower children with disabilities and promote inclusivity through advocacy and education.
In recognition of exceptional academic performance, full academic colours for college were awarded to Thandolwethu Khumalo and Matshela Vyamgungu, who achieved an average of over 80% in two examinations and one test cycle within the year. The highest academic honour, academic honours for college, was awarded to Mabetji Mankga and Taskeen Tayob, who attained an average of over 85% in the same period.
Other learners were also recognised in various categories, including academic half colours (Gr 10 and 11), academic progress (Enrichment Centre), academic progress (Gr 8 to 11), subject prize winners (Gr 8, 10, and 11), and academic order of merit (Gr 8 to 11)
As the ceremony concluded, Goeminne encouraged the achievers to continue striving for excellence, saying, “A big well done to all the achievers. Keep up your hard work and continue being role models for the junior phase.”
