MOKOPANE – Recent posts on social media reports alleging an attack on nurses at Mahwelereng Clinic have been debunked by the Department of Health.
In an official statement, the department confirmed that the claims were false and urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information.
According to the department, the incident on January 31 involved a young man who entered the clinic during the night shift, visibly distressed and covered in blood.

Before nurses could intervene, he disappeared from the treatment area. Concerned for their safety, the nurses immediately contacted the clinic’s operational manager and the police.
Upon arrival, officers found four men outside the clinic demanding the young man’s whereabouts, claiming he had been caught stealing in the community.
The police later discovered him hiding in the nurses’ quarters and took him into custody.
The Department of Health reassured the public that no nurses were harmed and they commended the quick response of both the clinic staff and the police.
They highlighted the importance of ensuring the safety of healthcare workers and urged people to verify information before sharing it, as false reports could create unnecessary panic.
