POLOKWANE – Faith Sebopela has made history as the first female chairperson of the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in Limpopo, following her unopposed election at the league’s 11th Provincial Congress held at Jack Botes Hall from February 2-3.
Sebopela succeeds the MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Tony Rachoene, who recently graduated from the youth league structures.
She and her top five leadership team were elected unanimously by delegates from all five regions. The congress was also attended by ANCYL president Collen Malatji and Secretary Mntuwoxolo Ngudle.

The newly elected leadership consists of:
Chairperson: Faith Sebopela.
Deputy chairperson: Frans Motupa.
Secretary: Phineas Sebola.

Deputy secretary: Frans Kgole.
Treasurer: Dr Muvhuso Maimela.
Speaking at the event, outgoing chairperson Rachoene reflected on his tenure, describing the organisation as “healthy, vibrant, and united”.
He highlighted key initiatives aimed at engaging young people, which he believes strengthened the youth league’s influence.
During the congress, the ANCYL called on the ANC provincial executive committee (PEC) to co-opt Rachoene into its ranks to fill the vacancy left by Soviet Lekganyane, who has since moved to the National Executive Committee.
Reading out the league’s resolutions, Secretary Phineas Sebola insisted that the request should be prioritised at the next PEC meeting.
“Now that he is leaving the youth league, we are demanding that he be co-opted to the PEC of the ANC in the province,” he stated.
