POLOKWANE – The consistent crime combatting police operation in Limpopo, Vala Umgodi boasts a qualified drone controller and police officer deployed in the provincial airwing unit.
Accomplished airborne police officer, Sgt Morekwana Monyela has built a career spanning 17 years marked by passion in combatting crime, gathering intelligence and ensuring public safety.

On 2008, July 14, a young Monyela completed basic police training at Tshwane Police Academy. His early years as a uniformed officer exposed him to the realities of visible policing and support services, that he chose the airwing unit, in which he completed among others, drone training.
Now his tactical skills play an important role in initiatives designed to dismantle criminal activities, especially illicit mining in the police service.
Limpopo police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba said his expertise has significantly reduced the risks to officers on the ground, in which he captures critical footage from above ensuring swift action, and often preventing criminals from fleeing or concealing evidence.
Recently, the sergeant and father of two completed an LLB degree, complementing his training and qualifications at the airwing providing a lasting legacy not only got his professional success, but also being a lasting example for his children, showing them the importance of service, courage and dedication.
