Parents challenge edu dept over unplaced learners in polokwane

Despite the Education Department confirming the completion of school placements parents say they have not received placement confirmations.

POLOKWANE – The Department of Education has announced the completion of the 2025 school placement process in Polokwane and Tzaneen, attributing previous delays to late applications and incorrectly completed forms.

Department spokesperson Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala recently stated that all eligible learners have been placed, with remaining placements focused on Waterberg and Mogalakwena.

However, a task team of concerned parents disputes this claim, asserting that many children in Polokwane are still without school placements.

Representative Thabo Moleleki said that some parents, despite applying on time, have not received placement confirmations.

In response to overcrowding, the department has delivered mobile classrooms to schools like Piet Hugo Primary, with desks expected to arrive soon.

Earlier assurances from officials indicated available spaces in schools such as Chris Hofmeyr, Flora Park Primary, and Pietersburg English Medium Primary for Gr R learners, as well as at Westenburg, Kuschke Agricultural, and Flora Park High schools.

Despite these measures, the task team continues to advocate for unplaced learners, urging the department to address the remaining gaps in the placement process.
