Polokwane celebrates International Wheelchair Day with inclusive event
The event where people will connect, celebrate and advocate will take place on Saturday at Jack Botes Hall from 09:00 until 16:00, with a theme ‘Inclusive Educational Theatre.’
POLOKWANE – In celebration of the 6th annual International Wheelchair Day, founder and project leader for Beyond Disability SA Solomon Ramauka from Polokwane invites the community to come and support their event.
The event where people will connect, celebrate and advocate will take place on Saturday at Jack Botes Hall from 09:00 until 16:00, with a theme ‘Inclusive Educational Theatre.’
Ramauka told Polokwane Observer that The International Wheelchair Day celebration event is a significant platform that will bring together over 500 attendees, including representatives from disability centres, special schools, stakeholders, and organisations across Limpopo.
“The event aims to recognise the transformative impact of wheelchairs on the lives of users while fostering inclusivity and addressing the challenges faced by persons with disabilities and the broader community.”

He added that this year’s celebration will feature a variety of activities, including; theatre productions by institutions such as the University of Limpopo, Helen Franz Special School, Setotolwane LSEN Secondary Special School, and Beyond Disability; Performances by wheelchair users and persons with disabilities, including artists, poets, and DJs; Motivational talks and educational displays by key stakeholders such as the Department of Health, Sports, Arts and Culture, SAPS, Education, taxi associations, and Polokwane Municipality.
“Topics will include mental health, assistive devices, GBV, substance abuse, bullying, public transportation, and white paper policies.”
Since its inception in 2019, Ramauka explained that the International Wheelchair Day celebration has proven to be a valuable platform for promoting social cohesion, inclusive education, and nation-building.
“We believe that your participation would greatly enrich the event and contribute to its success. We will also be playing some wheelchair fun games to foster interaction and inclusivity. Whether you walk or roll, your participation matters. Let’s highlight the importance of accessibility and support those who rely on wheelchairs daily. Let’s build a more inclusive world together.”
