Illegal foreign national duo arrested after car is stolen in Polokwane

A seven-seater vehicle stolen in Compensatie Street, Polokwane, last week led to the arrest of two illegal foreign nationals in Mahwelereng.

POLOKWANE – Members of the Provincial Flying Squad recovered a vehicle stolen in Polokwane and arrested two foreign nationals last Thursday (March 6) for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle and contravention of the Immigration Act 13 of 2002.

Police were on patrol when they received an alert about a silver, seven-seater Suzuki reported stolen from a female victim in Compensatie Street in the Polokwane CBD.

“Officers, in collaboration with a tracking company, immediately launched a search for the vehicle. It was located at a residential area in Mahwelereng Zone 02 where two male suspects were found inside,” said police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba.

He said the police questioned the suspects, who failed to produce valid ownership documents and could not provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the vehicle’s origin. They were arrested on the spot for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that both suspects were in the country illegally and intended to travel to Gauteng with the vehicle. As a result, an additional charge was added. The stolen vehicle was seized as evidence,” Ledwaba said.

The suspects, aged 37 and 51, will appear before the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court today (March 10) to face charges of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle and contravention of the Immigration Act.

Police investigations continue.
