Polokwane entrepreneur creates custom model figures

Peter Chivazve, a self-taught entrepreneur, creates custom model figures, turning his passion into a thriving business with bulk orders.

POLOKWANE – Peter ‘Tesh’ Chivazve, a self-taught entrepreneur from Polokwane, has turned his passion for creating model figures into a thriving business.

The recent model car he made was when he saw a classic Austin 7 1933 model at the Ons Tuiste Market in Suid Street. Intrigued by the car’s intricate design, Chivazve approached the car’s owner, Elana Erasmus, who received it as a birthday gift from Dr Bruce Phillips, and named it ‘Daisy.’

Chivazve proposed creating a miniature version of the car using wire and beads. Phillips, who had a history of making model objects as a child, was excited about the idea and agreed to let Chivazve study the car closely to capture its details.

“It was so exciting for me because I love making unique products,” said Chivazve. After spending a week perfecting the model, Chivazve presented the finished product to Phillips, who was so impressed that he immediately placed another order for a model of his other classic car.

Chivazve creates various figures at home and displays them at the Bendor Shopping Centre, where he sells them to passersby.

He moved to South Africa from Zimbabwe in 2003, seeking a better life for himself and his family.

“I’ve been mastering this skill since childhood by observing others in the streets. I saw an opportunity and taught myself. Now, I can provide for my family because since I started my business I get a lot of bulk orders from big companies as well.”

Chivazve, who is married to Peggy, has four children: Shaun (30), Kingston (25), Naledi (5), and Nicole (3). He also takes custom orders for personalised model figures and continues to sell his creations on weekdays and weekends.

For those interested in purchasing or ordering a custom model, Peter can be reached via WhatsApp at 067 542 6466 or at the Bendor Shopping Complex.
