Limpopo After-School Talent Show seeks young stars
The After-School Talent Show invites Gr 6-12 learners to showcase their skills and compete for a cash grand prize through public voting.
POLOKWANE – The After-School Talent Show is calling on talented Gr 6-12 learners across the province to showcase their skills and compete for a grand prize of R10 000.
Founded by James Modiba, the creator of JMPro Media, the competition was inspired by the growing number of talented young artists in schools. Modiba recognised that while many learners have the potential to build careers from their talents, they often lack guidance on how to monetise these skills.
“This platform not only provides exposure but also includes workshops to educate participants on turning their talents into sustainable careers,” Modiba explained.
Determined to provide young artists with recognition and support, he launched the competition – without sponsors – ensuring that learners have an opportunity to develop and showcase their talent.
“We’ve seen many young artists with incredible potential, but they often lack the right support to further their craft. This competition creates a space for learners to gain confidence, receive mentorship, and understand how to monetise their skills,” he added.
The After-School Talent Show is free to enter and fully audience-driven. There are no physical judges – public engagement determines the winners through two voting phases:
YouTube voting (first round): Contestants’ performances will be uploaded to the ‘Rooted Impact Network’ YouTube channel, and the number of ‘likes’ will decide who advances to the district stage.
SMS voting (district stage): The top contestants from each circuit will compete at the district level, where SMS voting lines will be introduced.
How the competition works
Submission: Learners submit their audition videos via WhatsApp, including their name, grade, school, and talent category. (Videos are not judged at this stage; this is for entry registration only.)
School activations: Selected schools will host live activations where learners can register for the competition.
Recording and public voting: Contestants will be filmed, and their performances will be published on ‘Rooted Impact Network’ for public voting.
Circuit office stage: The top three contestants from each circuit, based on YouTube ‘Likes,’ will advance.
District stage: The top three from each circuit will compete at the district level, where SMS voting will determine who reaches the final round.
Grand finale: The best contestants from each district will battle for the grand prize of R10 000.
