BOSA files complaint against Polokwane Municipality over lack of services

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Municipality is facing criticism from Build One South Africa (Bosa) over allegations of poor service delivery to various communities.
Bosa has filed a complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), accusing the municipality of failing to provide basic services such as water, electricity, and proper roads to residents in rural areas.

The complaint centres on the communities of Setlogong, Pepesane, Leokama, Ga-Matlou and Motinti, where residents have had to experience inconsistent electricity and water supplies for over 15 years.
The lack of basic services has severely affected the quality of life, with residents enduring harsh living conditions.

The situation is particularly dire in Malesa, Mentz and Mankweng, where the absence of proper roads has created significant challenges.
In Mentz, for example, residents have to carry their deceased loved ones by foot to the cemetery due to the poor road conditions.
Community representatives Phetole Mafoko and Ishmael Sehoana from Mentz’s ward 28 expressed frustration, saying that the local councillor has neglected their community and made false promises.
The inadequate roads also hinder access to essential services, including healthcare.
Bosa has strongly condemned the municipality’s failure to address these issues, calling it a violation of human rights. Bosa Capricorn chairperson Ngako Setjie and provincial leader Timothy Maluleke submitted the complaint to the SAHRC in Polokwane.
In response to the allegations, the Polokwane Municipality acknowledged Bosa’s right to voice concerns and engage with the relevant institutions on service delivery matters.
The municipality pledged to cooperate fully with the SAHRC’s investigation and work towards resolving the challenges faced by residents, particularly those in rural areas.
“We remain committed to improving service delivery and continue to work towards addressing the challenges faced by communities,” stated Thipa Selala, the municipality’s spokesperson.
