Limpopo cross border Neighbourhood Watch helps recover hijacked vehicles

Provincial police commend Neighbourhood Watch for helping recover a hijacked sedan and bakkie in Madimbo after a cross-border carjacking incident.

LIMPOPO – Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the cross border Neighbourhood Watch for its role in the recovery of a sedan and a bakkie following a carjacking incident in Madimbo village in the Tshamutumbu policing precinct on March 22.

According to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, a 51-year-old man from Tshiungani village was lured to the bushes in Madimbo after receiving a phone call claiming that suspects who had stolen his goods were being traced in the area. Upon arrival, he found both vehicles parked near each other.

As he, however, attempted to call the police, two gunshots were fired from the nearby bushes, prompting him and others to flee in different directions.
The suspects then drove away with both vehicles.

Police later recovered the sedan near the scene, while the bakkie, valued at R375 000, was found abandoned at Gate 32 near the Limpopo River, stripped of its radio system.

Hadebe reaffirmed the police’s commitment to tackling cross-border crimes, reiterating the importance of partnerships with Neighbourhood Watches and communities along the border.

“Our concerted efforts in combatting cross-border crimes are yielding desirable results,” she said.

A manhunt has been launched for the suspects, and police are urging anyone with information to contact Sergeant Lufuno Phanuel Mulaudzi at 071 397 0443, call the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111, visit the nearest police station, or use the MySAPS app. Investigations are ongoing.
