Thohoyandou woman arrested for unlicensed firearm possession

A 20-year-old woman was arrested after police found a suspected unlicensed firearm and ammunition hidden in her home.

LIMPOPO – A 20-year-old woman appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Monday following her arrest for possession of a suspected unlicensed firearm and ammunition at her residence in Tshidzini Tshilavulu.

According to Limpopo police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Thakeng, the arrest took place on Thursday last week at around 10:45 during an operation conducted by the SAPS Thohoyandou Task Team to trace wanted suspects. The team located the female suspect, who was allegedly connected to a robbery committed in the Thohoyandou area.

Upon arrival at the house, police questioned the woman about the whereabouts of the alleged suspect. After obtaining consent to search the property, officers discovered a suspicious black bag in the bathroom, which contained a firearm.

The weapon, a .38 Special, along with five live rounds, was seized by police.

The female suspect was immediately arrested and charged with possession of a suspected unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Investigations are ongoing.
