Heavy Easter traffic expected on R71 as ZCC pilgrims head to Moria

ZCC and St Engenas pilgrimages to Moria are expected to cause heavy Easter traffic on the R71 and other major Limpopo routes next week.

POLOKWANE – Traffc congestion is anticipated on the R71 route during the Easter period as members of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) and St Engenas ZCC head to Moria for their religious pilgrimages.

This was confirmed by members of both churches in an interview with BONUS this week.

All St Engenas church branches globally have been invited to participate in this year’s Easter celebration, with only four buses per ZCC branch permitted to transport members to help ease traffic flow.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) appeals to drivers to wear seatbelts and follow all road safety rules, and reiterated the potential for high traffic volumes due to many travelers using long-distance buses to attend religious events, visit rural areas, or return home for the holiday.

The corporation highlighted concerns about road injuries and fatalities and urged for urgent safety measures. Jane Mulaudzi, provincial head of traffic, also called on motorists to obey road regulations during this busy period.

According to her office, high traffic volumes are expected on the following routes:

– N1 from Maubane to Beitbridge.

– R101.

– R37 from Polokwane to Burgersfort.

– R71 from Polokwane to Tzaneen.

– R81 from Polokwane to Giyani.

– R524 from Louis Trichardt to the Kruger National Park.

– R521 from Polokwane to Dendron (Mogwadi).

– R523 from Wyllispoort to Sibasa.

– N11 from Marble Hall to Lephalale.

– R510 from Bela-Bela to Thabazimbi.

– The R40 and R36.
