Polokwane tutor launches reading support clinic

Khatija Abdulla launches The Reading Clinic in Nirvana, offering personalised reading support for children aged 6–13.

POLOKWANE – Committed to making a positive impact on the lives of children and families in the community, the founder of The Reading Clinic in Nirvana, Khatija Abdulla tutors children aged 6-13 years in all subjects.

With 15 years’ experience in education, Abdulla has witnessed the transformative power of reading in children’s lives firsthand.

“I also saw the struggles many children face in developing this critical skill , and it inspired me to create a safe, supportive and engaging environment where children can receive targeted reading support and develop a lifelong love for learning. Reading has always been my hobby and my passion too. That was my motivation behind starting the clinic,” she said.

Abdulla is a former teacher at PEPPS and Northern Muslim School and holds an honours degree.

She told Review that she looks forward to continuing this important work in the community.

She added that the primary purpose of the clinic is to provide individualised reading instructions and support to children, helping them build confidence, improve their reading skills, and develop a passion for reading.

“We aim to bridge the gap in reading education and empower children to reach their full potential. We also deal with spelling problems, speaking, comprehension skills and writing skills. All lessons and activities are done in the English language only.”

With the targeted age group of children aged 6-13 years, Abdulla explained that the clinic also offers tailored programmes to meet the unique needs of each age group, ensuring that every child receives the support they need to succeed.

“Reading is the foundation upon which all learning is built. It unlocks doors to new knowledge, fosters critical thinking, and develops essential communication skills. Reading also has the power to inspire, educate, and entertain, making it an indispensable part of a well-rounded education. Readers are leaders.”

In addition to running The Reading Clinic, Abdulla tutors children in all subjects from Gr R-7.

“We also assist children with learning difficulties including ADHD, autism, dyslexia and others. I would also like to express my gratitude to the Polokwane community for their continued support and enthusiasm towards our reading clinic.”

Upon application and registering, the specialised team will first schedule an initial assessment to determine the child’s reading needs and create a personalised learning plan for them.

Parents and guardians who are interested in applying for The Reading Clinic can contact them directly at 082 83 64 575 or send an e-mail to khatija_abdulla@yahoo.com.
