Seshego woodworker turns passion into purpose
Kagiso Chuene turned a setback into a thriving woodworking venture and now aims to empower unemployed youth through his craft.
POLOKWANE – Mangeloi Kagiso Chuene, a 28-year-old from Seshego Zone 1, discovered his hidden talent for woodworking in 2022.
Initially planning to focus on wooden rentals, he sought help from a skilled pallet worker, only to be let down when his calls went unanswered after purchasing the materials.
Rather than giving in to frustration, Chuene took matters into his own hands, starting to create various furniture pieces on his own. His work quickly gained attention, and people began to admire his talent. “I love what I do and, despite not having formal training, I collaborate with different establishments,” he said.
Chuene views his skills as a gift and hopes to further develop his craft with better equipment. His long-term goal is to teach other unemployed youths in his community the art of woodworking, sharing his knowledge and helping them find opportunities.
