Mankweng entrepreneur grows premium gin brand

Seema Masekwameng is building Lenaka Beverages into a top Limpopo gin brand, blending local pride with premium quality.

POLOKWANE – Seema Masekwameng (32), also known as Khutso, from Solomondale, is the proud owner of Lenaka Beverages (Pty) Ltd, a locally produced brand that is gaining recognition.

Masekwameng told BONUS that the name ‘Lenaka’ was inspired by the phrase ‘Lenaka la monna’a mosepidi’, which symbolises resilience, strength and the ability to provide. This phrase, often mentioned in soap operas like ‘Mokgonyanammatswale’ and ‘Ke kgwebo yaka ye’, aligns with his vision of creating a legacy-driven brand.

They specialise in premium gin, offering a range of distinctive products. Before starting his business, he studied gin to understand its benefits. Gin, a distilled spirit infused with botanicals like juniper berries, is known for its antioxidant properties.

Responsible consumption can provide potential benefits, including low calorie content, anti-inflammatory effects from botanicals like juniper and coriander, and digestive aid from herbal components, he added.

While recognising the health benefits, Masekwameng stressed that moderation is key, as excessive liquor consumption can have negative effects.

Lenaka Beverages primarily targets premium gin consumers in Limpopo, Gauteng, and surrounding regions, with plans to expand into other regions and neighbouring countries.

In addition to running the beverages venture, Masekwameng is trained as an assistant chef and is pursuing studies in business development, with plans to open a restaurant in the future. One of his long-term projects includes launching a food tourism business in Limpopo.

He is also dedicated to giving back to the community through charity work. He recently volunteered at the Itshepheng Senior Citizens Multipurpose Club, where he assists senior citizens with technical support and running errands.
