Limpopo Fashion Festival set to showcase Polokwane talent

Designer Laurence Maboko will host the 6th Limpopo Fashion Festival, spotlighting local talent and emerging fashion designers.

POLOWKANE – Seasoned Polokwane fashion designer, Laurence ‘Livasto Mojalefa’ Maboko, is preparing to host the sixth annual Limpopo Fashion Festival later this year – a celebration of style, creativity and the province’s emerging fashion talent.

Maboko, who owns Promote it Development and Projects (Promote it Agency) and the PT College of Fashion, launched his business in 2013 and saw it begin to blossom in 2018 – all while working as a hairdresser.

Today, his company not only runs a fashion school that trains students in design and garment construction, but also organises high-profile events such as the very popular Limpopo Fashion Festival.

Though the date and venue of the fashion festive are yet to be confirmed, Maboko promises that there will be updates on social media soon, with all the necessary details.

This year’s festival, in partnership with Shibombi Marketing and Events Management, invites both upcoming and professional designers from across the province to participate.

“Come and showcase your unique designs and fashion – you never know who might see your work and become your next client,” he invited stakeholders.

Designers and sponsors who are interested in getting involved can contact him directly at 082 510 3639.

Maboko, who has also hosted the Limpopo Plus Sizes Fashion Shows in past years to celebrate and embrace fuller-figured women, says the vision for the Limpopo Fashion Festival is to uplift local designers, give them platforms to gain exposure, and support them in building professional portfolios for future funding opportunities.

“I want to help them understand the fashion industry more, so they can become the next Gert-Johan Coetzee or David Tlale of Limpopo,” he said.

For in-person registrations and visits, Maboko is based in Landdros Mare Street, Polokwane.
