Health MEC condemns nurse assault at Vhembe hospital

MEC Mashego condemns nurse assault at Malamulele Hospital, praises swift police response and reaffirms staff safety.

LIMPOPO – Health MEC Dieketseng Mashego has welcomed the prompt arrest of a male patient who assaulted a nurse at Malamulele Hospital in the early hours of April 21.

The patient, admitted to the male ward after being involved in an accident, reportedly refused treatment and attacked the nurse while alleging that some of his belongings were missing.

The police responded swiftly and apprehended the suspect on charges of physical assault.

“We must ensure the safety of our healthcare workers. Violence against them will not be tolerated,” said Mashego. “I appreciate the prompt action taken by the police in this situation.”

The department has reiterated its commitment to creating and maintaining a safe environment for both healthcare workers and
patients.
