Limpopo police bid farewell to trailblazing Major General
Major General Christina Morakaladi retires after 39 years of service marked by compassion, leadership and excellence.
LIMPOPO – The police in Limpopo bid farewell to Major General Christina Hlagodi Morakaladi, who retired on May 31 after a distinguished 39-year career.
Known as ‘The Nurturer’, she rose through the ranks from constable in 1986 to deputy provincial commissioner for support services, becoming one of the province’s highest-ranking female officers.
Her career began in Mankweng after basic training in Hammanskraal.
She later joined crime intelligence and served in key administrative roles at Seshego, Lebowakgomo and Nebo, where she honed her people-focused approach to policing.
In 1993, she became one of the first officers seconded to the national head office and later transformed training practices as a facilitator in human resource development.
As captain in 2001, she took charge of provincial recruitment, introducing fair and transparent selection systems. Her leadership extended into officer wellness and culture, chairing activities such as Polmusca, sport and culinary events.
She pioneered the employee health and wellness component to support officers facing trauma. Promoted rapidly through the ranks, she was appointed deputy provincial commissioner in 2016, overseeing strategic planning, human resources, financial management, and facilities across the Limpopo SAPS.
She is celebrated for her empathy, creating a workplace where officers found emotional support. Her efforts in integrating reservists and supporting fallen officers’ families set new national benchmarks.
Her academic achievements include a national diploma and B.Tech in policing, alongside certifications in HR and leadership. Reflecting on her career, the mother of two credits her strength to faith, family and colleagues.
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised her as “the heartbeat of our organisation”, saying she leaves behind a legacy of compassion and excellence.
