Roadworks to continue on Nelson Mandela Drive until September

The Polokwane Municipality has announced partial lane closures on Nelson Mandela Drive for road repairs until mid-September 2025.

POLOKWANE – Peak traffic times are expected to be heavily affected as maintenance work continues on Nelson Mandela Drive.

Motorists were left frustrated this morning as congestion peaked at certain intersections on the route, causing delays for many.

The Polokwane Municipality says the temporary closure of certain lanes along Nelson Mandela Drive is due to essential road maintenance work.

The affected section runs between Rissik Street and Vermikuliet Street, and the partial closure will be in effect from July 16 to September 16.

Municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala says traffic will be redirected using visible signage to manage vehicle flow along this busy stretch of road.

Selala says motorists are therefore urged to exercise patience and caution while driving through the area, use alternative routes where possible and plan ahead to avoid peak-time congestion.
