Pregnant teen: Vhembe man arrested for rape

A 30-year-old man has been arrested for raping and impregnating a 14-year-old girl in the Thohoyandou area.

LIMPOPO – A joint intelligence driven operation executed in the Vhembe district has led to the apprehension of a 30-year-old man who is suspected of having impregnated a girl (14) in the Thohoyandou policing area.

Limpopo police spokesperson, Col Malesela Ledwaba said preliminary investigations revealed that on July 16 at about 09:00, the mother of the teenager was called by the principal of the school her daughter attends.

“Upon arrival, she was asked to take her daughter as she was not feeling well, from where they went to the clinic for medical attention. The medical practitioner examined the victim and discovered that she was pregnant and immediately informed her mother,” Ledwaba said.

After being questioned about who impregnanted her, reports suggest that the girl then positively identified the man.

The matter was reported to the police who opened a case of rape, and members of the provincial intervention team, jointly with the Thohoyandou family violence, child protection and sexual offenses (FCS) activated a manhunt.

Last Tuesday, the 30-year-old man was arrested at Tshitereke village.

He will appear before the Thohoyandou magistrate’s court facing a charge of the rape of a minor.
