OR Tambo drug smuggler arrested in Limpopo after skipping court

A man wanted in a drug smuggling case at OR Tambo Airport has been arrested in Limpopo after failing to appear in a Gauteng court

POLOKWANE – A man wanted in connection with a drug smuggling case at OR Tambo International Airport has been arrested in Mookgopong after failing to appear in court.

The Limpopo police say their Provincial Organised Crime Narcotics Unit, working closely with private security personnel, launched a search operation after confirming with OR Tambo International Airport detectives that a warrant of arrest had been issued for the suspect.

The Limpopo police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba says the white male suspect, who was previously linked to a drug smuggling case in Gauteng, was traced to Mookgopong in the Waterberg District, where he was arrested without incident.

“The suspect is currently detained in Mokopane and will be transported to Gauteng, where he will appear before a local magistrate’s court to face charges related to drug smuggling,” his statement reads.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the officers involved for their swift action and vigilance.
