Seniors shine at Makhado Golden Games
Senior citizens celebrate active ageing with sports, wellness activities, and community fun at the Golden Games hosted by the municipality.
LIMPOPO – The Makhado Showgrounds was alive with cheer and camaraderie last Tuesday as senior citizens from across the municipality gathered for the Active Ageing Golden Games, hosted by the Makhado Municipality.
The event was a celebration of the elderly community, promoting healthy living, wellness and social inclusion through a variety of sporting activities. Makhado Mayor Dorcus Mboyi led by example, taking part in the fun walk and encouraging others to remain active in their golden years.
The day featured lively performances, joyful interaction and friendly competition, with the soccer tournament proving to be a highlight. Elderly participants, showing both flair and fitness, competed in spirited matches to the delight of an enthusiastic crowd.
“The atmosphere was truly electric. It’s a reminder that life doesn’t stop at 60, it gets more fun,” one of the organisers said.
Mboyi said the municipality remains committed to providing inclusive platforms that uplift and celebrate senior citizens.
“As a municipality, we get to know our residents – their strengths, their stories and their incredible potential. It’s heart-warming to witness the vitality, passion and growth that continues well into the later years of life. We applaud those who embrace active ageing and live fully.”
