Police recover stolen bakkie worth R800k on N1 outside Polokwane

Police intercepted a stolen vehicle on the N1 North near Polokwane, arresting a 35-year-old man for possession of a suspected stolen car.

POLOKWANE – A 35-year-old man will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today (August 19) for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle following his arrest on the N1 yesterday.

The man was arrested by members of the SAPS Limpopo Tracking Team, the Polokwane Accident Response unit and Tshimollo Security and Investigation.

The Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba says the team reacted to an alert about a vehicle stolen in Kempton Park, Johannesburg and patrolled possible roads as a result.

“A grey Isuzu 250 Dteq-4×4 was then spotted along N1 North next to a lodge. They stopped the vehicle, and upon searching it, the driver, who is a South African, was found traveling alone. He was unable to produce valid documents for the vehicle and he was arrested on the spot for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle,” Mashaba’s statement reads.

He adds that the vehicle is worth R800 000.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe welcomes the arrest and applauds members for always being dedicated to their duties as they continue to recover stolen vehicles.

Mashaba says investigations continue.
