Burnt body found near Legae La Batho school sparks mob justice fears
Seshego police are probing a possible mob justice attack after a 35-year-old man’s body was discovered burnt near a school.
Bystanders have denied knowledge of what transpired when police attended to a severely injured man, whose broken and burnt body was discovered near a secondary school in Legae La Batho on Friday night.
Seshego police were called to the scene on Saturday morning at around 08:30 after clues suggested a possible mob justice attack.
The man, believed to be around 35 years old, was rushed to Seshego Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to police spokesperson Sgt Ali Maluleke, locals reported the body was found between Ext 75 and Legae la Batho.
When questioned, nearby residents however claimed to have no knowledge of what had happened.
One concerned resident, Frans Lekola, told BONUS that some community members believe the victim may have been dropped off by outsiders attempting to conceal evidence of their involvement.
“Otherwise, it is alarming that such a horrific incident could occur without the community hearing or noticing anything. We wonder what else can happen right under our noses, and where our safety lies,” he said.
Maluleke confirmed that the victim’s limbs were broken and his body set alight, describing the scene as deeply disturbing.
Investigations are ongoing to identify the perpetrators and locate the deceased’s family.
Police have urged anyone with information that may assist the investigation to contact Sgt Maluleke on 082 414 2070.
