Life sentence for Seshego man who attacked mother

A Seshego man was sentenced to life imprisonment for attempting to rape his mother and assaulting her at their home in 2024.

POLOKWANE – The Seshego Regional Court has sentenced a 32-year-old man to life imprisonment for attempted rape and an additional 10 years for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm following a violent incident at his home in Seshego.

The court heard that late one night in February 2024, the accused attempted to rape his mother, who fought back and screamed for help, drawing the attention of neighbours who rushed to her aid.

During the struggle, the victim was assaulted by the accused.

The incident was reported to police, who arrested the suspect later that evening.

The case was assigned to Sergeant Nation Teffo from the Seshego Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. His thorough investigation and successful opposition of bail led to the conviction and sentencing.

On Thursday (August 28), the Seshego Regional Court sentenced the accused to life imprisonment for attempted rape and 10 years for assault GBH.

He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm, and his name will be added to the National Register for Sex Offenders.
