Polokwane court escapee re-arrested in Moletjie after 2-day manhunt
An awaiting-trial prisoner who escaped from the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Wednesday has been re-arrested in Moletjie and will now face an additional charge.
POLOKWANE – An awaiting-trial prisoner who escaped from the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (September 3) has been re-arrested.
The Limpopo police report that the man (29) was captured at Ga-Semenya, Moletjie, yesterday morning (September 5) after a two-day manhunt.
The police spokesperson, Col Malesela Ledwaba, said the prisoner, who was facing charges of armed robbery with aggravating circumstances in a separate Westenburg case, escaped following a court appearance.
“His escape was discovered during a routine check by police, who immediately launched a search operation. The circumstances surrounding the incident that led to the escape are under investigation,” his statement read.
The suspect will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday (September 8) to face an additional charge of escaping from lawful custody.
