Limpopo woman in court over mob justice
A 34-year-old woman faces court after a mob justice attack in Mphakati left a man dead. Police search for more suspects continues.
LIMPOPO – A 34-year-old woman was expected to appear before the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday in connection with a mob justice incident that claimed the life of a man in Mphakati village, under the Saselamani policing area, on Sunday.
Limpopo police spokesperson, Col Malesela Ledwaba, said officers were conducting routine patrols when they received a report of a group of community members assaulting a man in the village. “Police reacted swiftly and rushed to the scene, where they found a man lying in the middle of the road with severe injuries. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) workers were called, but he was declared dead at the scene,” said Ledwaba.
Preliminary investigations showed that the victim was forcefully taken from his residence by a mob accusing him of stealing a laptop from a nearby house. A 34-year-old woman, who was reportedly part of the group, was positively identified and later arrested. Police are still searching for additional suspects who remain at large.
The deceased has been identified as Hleketa Shakes Mapimele, a resident of Shigalo village.
