Bestina Rakgoale blends amarula and honey into bold new gin brand

Polokwane’s Bestina Rakgoale is redefining spirits with her heritage-inspired gin, crafted with Amarula and local honey.

POLOKWANE – Bestina Rakgoale, the founder of a new gin brand, is making her mark in the spirits industry with a product that blends quality, storytelling and local heritage.

With more than 20 years of experience in travel and hospitality, Rakgoale first built her career in tourism after completing her studies, working for a leading South African car rental company before establishing Best Travel, her own full-service travel agency.

Her move into gin came from a desire to create something unique that reflects her passion for craftsmanship and cultural connection.

“For me, gin is not just a drink, it is an expression of creativity and authenticity. Our product celebrates local flavours and culture while building a community that appreciates the finer things in life,” she said.

Her signature product combines the creamy richness of Amarula with the sweetness of locally sourced honey.

This fusion, Rakgoale explains, celebrates African heritage while delivering a bold and distinctive taste. The brand also draws inspiration from her tourism journey.

“Just like a bee travels from flower to flower collecting unique flavours, my gin captures the essence of different places and experiences,” Rakgoale said.

Her vision is to grow it into a recognised premium brand, securing distribution in South Africa’s major cities and expanding into Southern Africa and Europe.

She also aims to showcase the brand at international spirits competitions and festivals.

“Beyond sales, I want our product to be an experience – something people remember for its story, flavours, and craftsmanship,” Rakgoale said.
