Police nab teen after fatal stabbing at Seshego Social Derby

Seshego police arrested a teenager after grill master and bouncer Lebogang Maruma was stabbed to death at the Polokwane Social Derby.

POLOKWANE – The Seshego police have arrested a 19-year-old make suspect following the fatal stabbing of Lebogang Maruma (22) in Seshego Zone 1.

Maruma, who worked as a grill/braai master at Slageng Lifestyle, was stabbed at the Polokwane Social Derby event in the early hours of Sunday morning (September 28).

The Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said they were alerted by the Seshego Hospital about a suspected murder case and that Maruma was later identified by his mother

“The victim sustained stab wounds to the chest and was certified dead on arrival. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, who was working as a bouncer at the stadium, was attacked and stabbed while on duty,” Ledwaba’s statement read.

He added that a swift follow-up operation by the police, with assistance from the community, led to the arrest of the suspect in Seshego Zone 05.

The suspect will appear before the Seshego District Court today on a charge of murder.

Meanwhile, Slageng offered their condolences to Maruma’s family.

In a social media post, the restaurant said Maruma was a “true part of the Slageng heartbeat.”

“Your flame will live on in our hearts. Rest peacefully,” it read.
