POLOKWANE – A 40-year-old man has been arrested after his girlfriend was found murdered in his room at Windhoek village in Senwabarwana in the early hours of Monday morning (November 24).
According to police, the couple was involved in a violent domestic argument that began around 20:00 on Sunday evening.
The fight allegedly continued for several hours.
The Limpopo police spokesperson, Col Malesela Ledwaba said the suspect reportedly went to his sister around 04:00 yesterday morning, informing her that his girlfriend “was no longer talking.”
“When the sister accompanied him back to his room, they found the 36-year-old woman lying on the floor with facial bruises and blood on the floor. The suspect then fled into the nearby mountain before police arrived,” his statement read.
Ledwaba said police discovered the victim covered with a duvet when they arrived on the scene.
“Paramedics were called, and she was declared dead on arrival. A search of the surrounding area was then launched and police later found the suspect hiding in the mountain, where he was arrested,” Ledwaba said.
The provincial police commissioner Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe strongly condemned the killing, urging community members to seek help when experiencing conflict or abuse in relationships.
The man is expected to appear in the Senwabarwana Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (November 26) on a charge of murder.
