Elderly farmer tied up and killed in Limpopo farm attack

Limpopo police have launched a manhunt after a farmer (77) was tied up and killed in a brutal farm attack in Tolwe.

LIMPOPO – The Limpopo police have launched a manhunt after a brutal farm attack near Baltimore in the Tolwe policing area on Saturday afternoon left a 77-year-old farmer dead and his wife traumatised.

According to police, the incident happened at around 16:00 on November 29.

The elderly farmer had left the house to check on his cattle when two unknown men entered the farmhouse and overpowered his wife.

The suspects tied her up inside the house before waiting for her husband to return.

“When the man arrived back home, the attackers allegedly confronted him at knife-point, tied him up and assaulted him severely before fleeing the scene. His wife managed to free herself and alert the local farm watch, who then notified the police and neighbouring farmers. When emergency services arrived, they found the farmer still tied up and unconscious. He was declared dead at the scene,” the Limpopo police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba said.

Police have confirmed that a firearm, cellphones and an undisclosed amount of money were stolen.

“The identity of the deceased is being withheld at this stage as part of the ongoing investigation,” Ledwaba added.

The Limpopo police commissioner, Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe has ordered that all available resources be deployed to track down the killers.

“Those responsible for this horrific crime must be found. We are urging anyone with information to assist,” she said.

Ledwaba appealed to the public to come forward with any leads that may help arrest the suspects.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Investigating Officer Sergeant Simon Ditle on 082 414 1882, the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111, or use the MySAPS app.
