Polokwane Review-Observer donates R120k to local charities

Polokwane Review/Observer donated R120 000 and essential goods to four local charities following the success of its inaugural Charity Golf Day.

POLOKWANE – An early Christmas gift arrived for four charity organisations in the city as Polokwane Review/Observer handed over monetary and food donations on Monday.

The proceeds were that of the first Polokwane Review Charity Golf Day, held at the end of September, where 128 players in 32 teams took to the course in a betterball stableford format.

The event was dedicated to supporting Lucky Paws Rescue NPC – Lost & Found Polokwane, SPCA Polokwane, Bathesda Care NPC and Gae Ga Mahlako Community Services for the Elderly and Disabilities.

After a day filled with camaraderie and competition, the initiative successfully raised enough to donate R30 000 to each organisation.

In addition to the monetary contribution, the two animal welfare organisations received dog and cat food, while the care organisations received three months’ worth of maize meal sponsored by Theo Allison to support their feeding programmes.

Maretha Swanepoel

My name is Maretha Swanepoel and I have worked at the Polokwane Review since 2012. The decision to become a journalist came at 04:00 one Friday morning while watching news of bombings in Afghanistan and I realised I wanted to be there. Some years later, I decided to rather stay in South Africa and join the industry due to my love for writing and curiosity. Even though I can write all beats, I love human interest and community news with some schools added to the mix. Telling someone’s story and using my camera to make memories is a privilege. My interests include animals (especially dogs) and mental health. I like to spend my time with my dogs and a good book. My family is important and takes second place in my heart. God is always first.
