Tenpin on Grimm wins four top awards in Best of Polokwane 2025

A four-category win secures Tenpin on Grimm’s place as a Polokwane favourite, celebrated for its food, service and loyal community.

POLOKWANE – Tenpin on Grimm has officially solidified its place as one of Polokwane’s favourite destinations after walking away with four top titles at the Polokwane Review / Observer Best of Polokwane Readers’ Choice Awards.

The celebrated Steampunk-themed hotspot clinched victories in the following categories:

• Best restaurant for breakfast
• Best takeaway
• Best pub and sports bar
• Best dinner

Owner Carl Lechner expressed immense gratitude to the community whose loyal support made the sweep possible.

“This victory belongs to you, our loyal customers, amazing supporters, followers, friends and the incredible public who voted every day. Your votes, your love, your trust you turned the gears and made the magic happen. From the entire Tenpin on Grimm team, thank you for believing in us, for choosing us, and for being the heartbeat of our Steampunk world.”

To honour the staff who power the engine room of the venue, Lechner paid tribute with a heartfelt ode:

Tribute to the Tenpin on Grimm Crew
Behind every plate, behind every strike,
Are hands that work from morn till night.
Gears may turn, and boilers roar,
But it’s you who keeps us strong at the core.
From floor to lane, from grill to bar,
Your efforts shine like a guiding star.
Today we celebrate because of what you do —
Tenpin on Grimm is great… because of you.
Thank you for your loyalty.
Thank you for your pride.
Thank you for giving your all — every day, every shift.

Lechner concluded: “A massive thank you to our Tenpin on Grimm team. Winning Best of Polokwane in all four categories wasn’t just a victory, it was a reflection of the incredible people who keep our gears turning every single day. You are the heart, hands, and spirit of Tenpin on Grimm. Without your passion, dedication and hard work, none of this would have been possible.”

Maretha Swanepoel

My name is Maretha Swanepoel and I have worked at the Polokwane Review since 2012. The decision to become a journalist came at 04:00 one Friday morning while watching news of bombings in Afghanistan and I realised I wanted to be there. Some years later, I decided to rather stay in South Africa and join the industry due to my love for writing and curiosity. Even though I can write all beats, I love human interest and community news with some schools added to the mix. Telling someone’s story and using my camera to make memories is a privilege. My interests include animals (especially dogs) and mental health. I like to spend my time with my dogs and a good book. My family is important and takes second place in my heart. God is always first.
