LIMPOPO – A 55-year-old man from Sidou Village has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his wife during a church service in Makonde last year.
The Thohoyandou High Court handed down the sentence on Wednesday (December 10).
Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, says the court heard that on March 30, 2024, the man, later identified as Mundalamo Avhapfani Eric, followed his 43-year-old wife, Mbedzi Funanani Patience, to church. Armed with a gun, he entered the building and shot her in front of congregants.

Police were called to the scene and opened a murder case. The investigation was led by Constable Mashamba Mmbengeni Clovis of the Thohoyandou Detective Service, who compiled the evidence that linked the accused to the killing.
The following day, April 1, 2024, Eric surrendered to police and was formally charged.
After nearly two years of court proceedings and investigation, the High Court convicted him of murder and imposed a life sentence. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
