Breakthrough in case of missing Louis Trichardt man
A 24-year-old suspect has been arrested after a body, believed to be that of missing 22-year-old Reuben Marsberg, was found in Louis Trichardt.
LIMPOPO – Police have arrested a 24-year-old man believed to be linked to the disappearance and killing of 22-year-old Reuben Marsberg, who was reported missing on Thursday, November 27.
Marsberg was last seen on a farm in the Levubu policing area, where several valuable items were also stolen, including his Toyota Land Cruiser. Police launched an intensive investigation shortly after the report was filed.
The missing vehicle was later found abandoned at Polokwane International Airport.
Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, says further enquiries led investigators to an area near Correctional Services in Makhado, where a body wrapped in a blanket was discovered in the bushes.
“The remains were already in an advanced state of decomposition, but are strongly believed to be Marsberg.”
Following this discovery, police moved to a residence in Makhado town, where they arrested a 24-year-old suspect. A trailer, boat and bull bar belonging to the missing man were found at the property.
The suspect is expected to appear in a local magistrate’s court soon on charges of murder and house robbery.
Police are conducting DNA tests to formally confirm the identity of the body. Investigations are ongoing.
