Ko Chef dips takes Seshego’s kota scene by storm
Chef Dipuo Leso is raising the bar for kotas in Seshego and using social media to grow a loyal foodie community.
POLOKWANE – Ko Chef Dips’ has quickly become the talk of Seshego — a fresh, flavour-forward take on South Africa’s beloved kota, served from a buzzing spot behind the Circle Centre shopping complex.
Owner Dipuo “Dips” Leso (31), a professional chef from Lebowakgomo, says her passion for cooking and her fascination with the culture behind kotas inspired her to redefine the township staple.

“Kotas are close to my heart because they’re not just food — they’re culture, creativity and comfort all in one,” she said. “I love experimenting with flavours and putting my own twist on a classic favourite.”
Identifying a gap in the quality of kota offerings in the area, Dips set out to elevate the street-food experience by using refined ingredients and chef-driven precision without losing the essence of the iconic meal.
A warm community welcome and a viral debate
Since opening, she says the reception has exceeded her expectations.
“The response has been amazing! People appreciate the creativity and the taste. Many have become regulars, and I love seeing families, students and friends coming together over my kotas. It’s really motivating.”
But Ko Chef Dips has not escaped controversy. When her premium kota priced at R100 went viral online, debates erupted over whether the meal was too expensive.
Dips, however, says the conversation turned out to be a blessing.
“The social media discussions brought exposure, more customers and a chance to show that our kotas are worth every rand,” she said.
Social media as a power tool
She sees digital platforms as a crucial part of her business.
“Social media is everything! I use it to showcase new flavours, interact with customers, share behind-the-scenes content, and announce pop-up events. It helps build a community and keeps people excited about what’s coming next.”
Her popular pop-ups also give customers a chance to connect with her in person and experience the passion behind the brand.
Growth, challenges and big dreams
Like many township-based eateries, visibility and consistent foot traffic remain challenges. But Dips and her team rely on strategy, marketing and word-of-mouth to keep momentum high.
She hopes to grow Ko Chef Dips into a recognisable brand across Limpopo — and eventually, across South Africa.
Her message to aspiring entrepreneurs is clear:
“Believe in yourself, be persistent, and don’t fear failure. Start with what you have, stay true to your passion, and remember that hard work pays off. Surround yourself with people who support and uplift you.”
