Man arrested for unlicensed firearm near Thabazimbi municipal offices

A 30-year-old man was arrested after police found a firearm and ammunition in his bag near the Thabazimbi Municipality.

LIMPOPO – A 30-year-old man has been arrested for the alleged illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition near the Thabazimbi Municipality building.

The arrest took place on Tuesday (January 6) at approximately 15:00, during Safer Festive Season operations conducted by Waterberg District police.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said officers acted on information that a suspect was on his way to sell an unlicensed firearm near the municipal offices. Upon arrival, they identified a man matching the description, who was carrying a school bag.

A search of the bag revealed an unlicensed firearm and a magazine loaded with eleven live rounds of ammunition. The suspect could not produce a valid licence and was arrested on the spot.

The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Thabazimbi Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (January 8) to face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Police investigations are ongoing.
