N1 closed near Ysterberg after fatal multi-vehicle crash
A serious crash involving three cars has closed the N1 in both directions near Ysterberg mountain, with motorists advised to use the R101 as an alternative.

The driver who caused the fatal chain-reaction collision on the N1 near Ysterberg, killing a woman and three children, fled after forcing another vehicle to swerve.

POLOKWANE – The N1 has been closed in both directions near Ysterberg mountain following a serious multi-vehicle collision this afternoon.
Emergency services are currently on the scene of what is described as a “horror crash” involving three cars.
Indications are that there have been serious fatalities.
Traffic authorities have advised motorists to use alternative routes immediately.
- Motorists travelling south towards Gauteng should use the R101 from Polokwane.
- Motorists travelling north towards Polokwane should take the Nyl Plaza off-ramp and join the R101.
There is currently no estimated time for the reopening of the highway.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area and plan their journeys accordingly.
