Thohoyandou fashion label built on friendship
Founded by best friends Dakalo Ramasimu and Dakalo Sadiki, the Thohoyandou brand Obsolete Kulture is making a comeback with its streetwear.
LIMPOPO – Obsolete Kulture is a fashion label founded by best friends and neighbours Dakalo Ramasimu and Dakalo Sadiki from Maniini village outside Thohoyandou.
The duo launched the brand in 2013, starting with a simple T-shirt design inspired by sport and hip-hop culture. In 2015, Obsolete Kulture made its first public appearance after being invited to showcase at a fashion show hosted by Worship House.
In April 2018, the brand entered into a partnership with MIV94, which saw both labels showcasing together at the Thohoyandou Fashion Night event held at Thavhani Mall.
The collaboration continued at the Polokwane Fashion Fair in February 2019 before the partnership ended in April of the same year.

Following the split, Obsolete Kulture placed strong emphasis on its DirtyLogo, the brand’s most recognisable symbol. The red beanie cartoon logo has since appeared on more than a thousand sold items, including T-shirts, hoodies, jackets, hats and shorts.
Although the brand took a brief break, it is steadily making a comeback, consistently showcasing at the Style and Art Fashion Show and recently launching its own website.
Ramasimu said his love for fashion started at a young age.
“From a very young age, I loved fashion. As more trends entered the market, my interest grew. I also drew a lot of inspiration from my mother, who always dressed me up,” he said.
