LIMPOPO – Wine enthusiasts gathered at Nandoni Dam outside Thohoyandou for a premiere long-table dining experience that blended Vhembe cultural heritage with contemporary wine culture.

The concept, known as Ro deka Tafula, was designed as an intimate gathering centred on the act of breaking bread to foster authentic connection, storytelling and community within a shared space. The event was a sold-out success, attracting more than 100 guests, mainly young professionals and cultural enthusiasts.

Rendi Mulaudzi, Macbeth Ndou and Mashudu Aunty.

According to organiser Macbeth Ndou, Ro deka Tafula was born from the desire to create spaces where culture is honoured and reimagined. “We did not just want to host an event, we wanted to build a moment where every guest felt part of a living story. The overwhelming response shows how deeply our community values authenticity and togetherness,” he said.

He explained that the experience was an immersive cultural journey. “The event was carefully designed around the powerful symbolism of breaking bread, which encourages human connection, storytelling and a renewed sense of community,” he said.

Ndou added that the earth-tone colours used throughout the event was intentional. “It visually and symbolically rooted the gathering in a sense of place and belonging. This transformed the event into a cohesive and elegant visual narrative, where every guest became part of the atmosphere, reinforcing the theme of unity,” he said.

He described the occasion as a great success. “From the moment guests were welcomed at the secret meeting point, there was a tangible energy of anticipation and elegance. The long table, set against soft music, became a vessel for conversation and connection, while curated wines and Vhembe-inspired cuisine created a genuine cultural fusion.”

Ndou said the positive response confirmed that the vision had been achieved.

“Based on the sold-out engagement and the feedback we received, we believe the goal was not only reached, but beautifully exceeded,” he concluded.
