2 Suspects arrested after Lebowakgomo filling station burglary

Police caught two men and seized house-breaking tools after a group of eight attempted to burgle a filling station near Lebowakgomo.

LIMPOPO – Lebowakgomo police have arrested two men, aged 32 and 33, in connection with a business burglary and the possession of house-breaking equipment.

Early morning raid on a filling station

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday (January 19) when police were alerted to a burglary in progress at a local filling station around 03:00.

Upon arrival, officers saw eight male suspects fleeing the scene. They gave chase and apprehended a 32-year-old man.

The arrested suspect then led police to a bakkie parked nearby, which was used in the crime. The vehicle was impounded, and police found several items in the suspect’s possession, including a 10m electric extension cord, a steel hammer, a metal wall grinder, two construction masks, and a balaclava.

An accomplice arrives with a fabricated story

Later that morning, a 33-year-old man arrived at the police station to report his bakkie had been stolen. Further investigation revealed he was an accomplice in the burglary, and he was arrested on the spot.

The two suspects are scheduled to appear before the Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court today (January 20) to face charges of business burglary and possession of house-breaking equipment.
