11 Scholar transport vehicles impounded in Polokwane

Limpopo traffic officials seized 11 vehicles for permit and safety violations in a Ladanna operation targeting illegal learner transport.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety confirms that 11 scholar transport vehicles were impounded in Ladanna, Polokwane, yesterday during a targeted law enforcement operation.

The operation, conducted by the Public Transport Unit, found the vehicles in contravention of several transport laws.

These violations included failure to meet permit conditions, roadworthiness standards, and the safety regulations governing learner transportation.

“Such conduct places the lives of children at serious risk,” said a department spokesperson, Matome Taueatsoala. “The safety of learners is non-negotiable, and we will not tolerate lawlessness in this sector.”

The impoundment is part of an ongoing, province-wide enforcement programme to restore order and compliance within the scholar transport industry.

Similar operations are being conducted across Limpopo to ensure all vehicles transporting learners are safe, roadworthy, and legally permitted.

The department commended the officers for their vigilance and commitment. Officials also issued a direct warning to operators.

“Scholar transport operators must immediately regularise their operations and adhere strictly to the law. Failure to do so will result in firm action, including impoundment, fines, and possible criminal prosecution,” Taueatsoala stated.

Parents and guardians were urged to verify that the transport services they use for their children are legally registered and fully compliant with safety requirements.

The public is encouraged to report any suspicious or unsafe vehicles on the toll-free number 0800 006 694.
