Noorderland learner is Polokwane’s best matriculant

Paballo Makokga, named Polokwane's top matriculant, balanced academics with school presidency and aims to study medicine at UCT.

POLOKWANE – Noorderland High School’s Paballo Makokga has been named the top-performing matriculant in the city, achieving an impressive average of 94.3%.

The awards ceremony was held at the Jack Botes Hall on Friday. Speaking to Review, Makokga expressed her delight at the recognition.

“For it to come from a big deal like the final matric results is just a happy moment for me,” she said.

Makokga’s achievement adds to an already impressive list. She was the Dux learner in Gr 11 with the highest average and topped the district in mathematics, physical science and life sciences.

She also served as school president, demonstrating a remarkable ability to balance academics, leadership and sport.

Reflecting on her ability to manage multiple responsibilities, she said: “I have always participated in a lot of sport and balanced my books. I think I balanced them well because I loved doing them, so it came easy to me to make time for everything. I have also always had support, which allowed me to pursue all my interests.”

Makokga plans to study medicine at the University of Cape Town. Her advice to this year’s Gr 12 learners: “Believe in yourself, stay focused and determined. What seems hard now won’t be later. All the hard work you give now will bring success later, just trust the process and remain focused.”
