Mokopane security officer to appear in court for fatal shooting

A security officer in Mokopane was arrested for fatally shooting another man during an argument at a restaurant.

MOKOPANE – A 34-year-old security officer is expected to appear before the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court today (January 27) following a fatal shooting in town.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning (January 26).

“Reports suggest the deceased was involved in an argument with the suspect at a local restaurant in Pretorius Street at approximately 02:10. During the altercation, the suspect fired a shot, fatally wounding the victim,” says Ledwaba.

The suspect fled on foot, and the victim was declared dead at the scene by emergency services. He was swiftly arrested following police investigations. The firearm used in the crime was recovered.

A case of murder has been opened, and police investigations are continuing.
